Briefly about LITTLE ANGELS CHILDREN'S HOME - and some pictures from our first visit in September 2002

The home lies just outside Mamallapuram. We went there by rickshaw and when we arrived all children came up to us and take our hands and tell their name and ask for ours. Then they hang flower bands around our necks.

The children sit under a roof on a concrete floor and receive school education. Each evening two teachers come to help the children with their home work and supportive training. Partly because the schools are not so good, and partly because several of the children has lost several years in school and need support to catch up.

This is the kitchen where the cook is preparing food. On the picture she is making chapatti bread.

This is Stephen who is serving us food. We sit in a room where they keep groceries, and which also is the girl's bedroom!

Here May and I is having our meal. As you can see we the food is served on banana leaves and we use our right hand to eat, as is the custom in India. Do I have to say that it tastes very well?

The boys sleep on the floor in two small rooms, Here are five boys in one of the rooms, getting help with their maths. Next day they are going to do the national test in mathematics.

Stephen gave us a short paper where the children's home was presented. I have put the text on a separate page.

We visited the home again in January 2004 - here are a few pictures from that visit.

We planned to visit the home a third time in January 2005. Due to the tragic consequences for the Bivrin family this trip was cancelled. We had collected money we were going to donate to the children's home. Some of it were sent with a friend who went to India as planned. Since also Tamil Nadu was badly hit by the flood wave, we were worried about Stephen and the children. No answers to our mails and not getting through on the phone did not make the situation better. Finally, thank God, we got a mail from Stephen. And our friend handed over the money she brought (see thank you mail).

Ever since I first asked for donations, the generosity among friends and contacts has been stunning, so I have been able to send money to Stephen a few times every year. Sometimes I have sent money with friends that have travelled there, other times I have transferred the money to his bank account. As the banks charge heavy fees for that service, I prefer sending cash with someone actually travelling there.

Here is a list of what we have handed over. Click on the picture to get a larger version!
